Yuni Yuni

This old terrace house built in Taisho and early Showa period in the middle of Kyoto has been renovated as a women’s fashion boutique. The first floor is a shop, and the second floor is a shop. The client requested that our design not be too-business-like, while still capturing the existing charm of the space, so that visitors can shop in a calm and relaxed environment. The second floor, which is open to the street on the ground level, was completed with only some minor adjustments to the existing structure, while on the first floor we installed new elements to add uniqueness to the space’s character as a clothing shop. The courtyard is newly designed, and for the interior, we used materials that make people feel the shift of time.
The roof and beams of the existing structure have been used with some new reinforcement, and provide visual impact in the space. The attic on the second floor is visible from the first floor, which creates a sense of height and visual connection between the two floors. The walls were finished with fiber-inlaid plaster, and we installed some antique furniture.
